Streamlining the Green Card Process: How a Small Change to Medical Examinations Can Help Your Green

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is currently updating the policy guidance regarding the time allotted for validity after the submission of Form I-693. This guidance can be found in the USCIS Policy Manual in Volume 8, Part B.

Form I-693 is used for immigrant benefit admissibility regarding the health-related grounds of inadmissibility. It is known as the Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record where all health information of the applicant is recorded. Prior to immigrating to the United States, individuals must go through a immigrant medical examination. The results of these examinations are documented on Form I-693 and given to USCIS officers to process and administer admissibility into the United States.

The validity period for Form I-693 is executed by policy and the updates to the maximum two year validity period are said to minimize need for updated Form I-693’s. A Form I-693 will become valid when a civil surgeon signs the application at least 60 days before filing that initial application. USCIS will then adjudicate the application within at least two years that the signature was printed.
