Need to Make an Infopass? Good luck with that. USCIS Announces Big Changes to Los Angeles Area Field

USCIS will begin to expand its Information Services Modernization Program to a range of offices beginning November 13th, 2018. The Detroit Field Office along with five offices in the Los Angeles District will be the first offices to implement the program with the offices in Newark, Great Lakes, and San Francisco following the fiscal year. All field offices should be implementing the Information Services Modernization Program by the end of next year.

The Information Services Modernization Program instructs individuals to use USCIS online information to check on the status of their cases rather than having an abundance of self-schedule of InfoPass appointments. The current changes in the program will allow applicants to manage their cases online rather than having to come in person to receive such information. This will also allow emergency situations be handled more efficiently by minimizing less wait time with other applicants.

USCIS Director Francis Cissna states, “Expanding this program is a significant step in our efforts to move more USCIS services and information online. It also frees up agency staff to spend more time adjudicating benefit requests which should help reduce case processing times. USCIS remains committed to pursuing the most effective and efficient ways to administer our nation’s lawful immigration system.” Many applicants who come into the office for help could have their questions answered on the online portal saving time and money.

The online program will recognize when an applicant needs in-person assistance and will help them to schedule an appointment showing open time slots. The Information Services Modernization Program will overall help applicants keep up to date with their cases and take off the extra burden of scheduling an appointment for a common case related question.
